after having played it for about 4 or 5 hours straight....i have to say, im still quite impressed. but ill get the niggles out of the way first.
- when re spawning on the main map and choosing a point to spawn in at...sometimes the colours of the turrets and buildings are red, when they are friendly to us...making it hard to (at a glance) know where you would be the most useful. an annoying little bug, but a serious one when it comes to team coordination.
- SPAWN KILLING! DAMN! this has never been a favoured game mechanic in any game lol and i think i know why. its not designed to be one. it is a bi-product of poor implimentation of the game design. i have seen many thread on the forums over the past couple of week suggesting way to fix the spawn camping. its so easy to find the spots. whether you are doing the camp, or being the victim...it gets old really quick. and the fun of the match just flies right out of the window because you realise that its just like CoD all over again. you learn the map, you find your spot...and you just do the same thing over and over again. i know Dust will never be like CoD cos there are too many maps lol but still, you see my point. its annoying!
- Bunny hoping is still annoying me too. but i dont think that is going to go away. just get the KB/m support in here so we have the fidelity in the controls to **** them all before they hit the ground again :)
ok, thats the niggles done.
as i said at the start...i am impressed by the overhaul.
the graphics look really sweet....REALLY sweet. all shiny and glorious. from the characters, to the weapons and effects...all the way to the terrain objects of cover. its looking really nice, and runs quite smooth also. so....kudos on that front CCP. the aesthetic of this game all has me smiling from ear to ear. its gritty and i like it :D
someone earlier mentioned HAV's. he is right in saying that there are a lot of them. in one match we had 3 either side once. on a map that size....its a bit OTT. but hey, i wasnt complaining when i was in the other seat in one, or was blowing one up :) teamwork for the win :D
also, something was said earlier about the fact that its easily to kill people now.....that shields do almost nothing. i gotta say. i kinda like it like this. from an attacking point of view...it makes for skill growing in making the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th shot succeed in hitting after the first. thats pressure right there. you could sneak up on someone....take down their shield (at which time there are now startled) and then make sure that you track that guy like your life depended on it...which it does! think about it. Its a shield, not a 2nd armor. its powered but a little powercell or osmething somewhere on a suit the size of your body....so its a back up, an alarm system. on the receiving end...it also adds the pressure of getting your act together when your shield get hit. if anything, ive died less since this update than i did before, purely because i know that my shield is that friend that tells me when **** is going down....but then i need to do something about it, because once that shield has squealed.....its gone. it works well i think. plus....it encourages you to tank properly for your gamestyle when you sort out your fits....just like in eve.
as for the balancing of weapons....some of them are really over powered thats true. i was full stats, to dead because of splash damage from turret. splash damage killing me? i wasnt even all that close to where the shots hit. so thats a little annoying.
I LOVE the ability to do a little impulse buying and fitting in the War Room. its a great touch. i do like a little impulse shopping now and again :D
Finally....the zoom reticle on the assault rifle (and others) that is a properly distinguished reticle. i said in a post not long ago that the whole point in zooming is to focus in on something and get a better shot. it has always done this but beforehand, you could still see everything in the rest of your screen easily, and it was distracting. now though....a nicely made bubbly effect to focus in on the focusing of your shot. NICE JOB! I LOVE IT!
ah, here's a thing. earlier today i got some SP together, upgraded some skills....played a match, and when i was being awarded the SP for that match...my total SP was in minus :S how did that happen? has it happened to anyone else? i have no idea what made it do that, it confused the hell out of me and i was using the following to match to hit 0 balance again. weird stuff.
i do however really like the award screen at the end of a match. its nicely laid out, easy on the eye and the brain. the only thing that i dont like about it though is that its tell you how much SP you COULD have if you had a boosting. i think its kinda taunting. yes....we know that you want us to buy aurum to get boosts and stuff....but there has to be a less direct way of letting us know they are there. like an ad in the MQ or the War room or something. its much better than (and forgive the expression) rubbing it in the faces of the people who either dont want the boost cos they dont play enough, or cant have it cos they dont have the spare pocket money (for the younger players) its just a tad "sticking out the tongue"-esque.
i like the graphic distinctions between the suits now. you can tell what suit someone is wearing just by looking at it and i think its really awesome.
i think thats all i have to say :S im running out of characters so ill just say this....
....this is the crucible of DUST514. by no means finished, fixed or perfect....but a GIANT MAN STEP in the direction that shows 1) you are in the process of making a phenomenal game and 2) CCP has the minds to weave their dream with the community dream together. Once again your eyes and ears have been open CCP and i thank you for taking our worlds as serious as we write them.
